Our Future Festival NYC

Our Future Festival NYC is a day of talks, presentations, workshops, art, performances and discussion, part of Climate Week NYC 2019. The focus is on New York and how we can all participate in preparing for a resilient future.  Experience Governors Island’s purpose-built climate resiliency and meet NYC’s climate leaders. The festival will feature informative talks and discussions by climate leaders, creative and fun workshops that spark curiosity and inspire belonging as it relates to our shared urban environment, climate-themed dance and theatrical performances.

A series of guided tours and interactive walks will allow visitors to explore and learn about Governors Island, from its urban farm to resilient new park, through the lens of climate change. Free

The Vendy Awards

The Vendy Awards is an annual street food competition that determines the best street food vendors in New York City. We celebrate the excellent food available on our city’s streets and the hard-working people who bring it to us each day. The Vendy Awards serves as a fundraiser for the Street Vendor Project, a membership-based non-profit organization that stands up for vendors’ rights while providing legal and small-business services.

Exploring Art + Technology Labs – It’s About Time: Autumnal Equinox

The fall equinox in September marks the seasonal shift toward preparing for and receiving the winter. Learn more about Indigenous calendar and timekeeping systems such as the Maya corn cycle and the Haudenosaunee 13-month lunar cycle. Create your own calendar as you reflect on the annual rituals in your life. Free National Museum of the American Indian

Learn how to be a member of the Culper Spy Ring with author Claudia Friddell! Visit interactive spy stations to learn how to write with invisible ink, use a clothesline to send secret messages like patriot Anna Smith Strong, and use a cipher to crack a code from Benjamin Tallmadge’s code book. Included with regular Museum Admission. Free 54 Pearl Street.

Gala Celebration Reading and Book Launch

This gala reading celebrating 3 Mile Harbor Press features the East Coast launch of M.L. Brown’s Call It Mist, winner of this year’s book competition.  Free 10 River Terrace.
