Manhattan Youth’s Downtown Basketball League, guided by Athletic Director Lamont Williams, provides high-level instruction in both individual and team-based basketball skills. Programs for boys in grades 2 through 9 and girls in grades 2 through 5 are run in two phases: pre-season and regular season. During pre-season, which begins the week of November 12, players are evaluated based on their skill set and participate in scrimmages to help enhance their abilities on the court. In January, the regular season begins. Each participant is placed on a team which will play against other teams once a week. League games run from January through March on weeknights beginning at either 6:15pm or 7:40pm based on age group. The gyms at P.S. 89, P.S. 234, P.S. 397 and P.S. 276 are used for practice and games.
In addition to participating in the leagues, players can sign up for skill-development clinics, which are offered for boys in grades 1 through 5 and girls in grades 1 through 7. Clinics take place on the weekend from November 15th to March 21st.
