To the editor:
Tammy’s insightful comments about moving the Sphere to Liberty Park are a continuation of her many reasonable comments on local issues over the past 15 years.
It is disrespectful to those of us who have been living with the aftermath for almost two decades to think that we need to preserve every piece of destruction in order for us, or anyone, to remember what happened.
I am puzzled that, when we have a 16-acre memorial and a 110,000 square foot museum, we need to have this object preserved in a public space where it will become another spot jammed with the tourists who will inevitably flock to take smiling selfies and leave trash. As soon as the updated tourist guides are published, it will be another “must-see” and the purpose of the connection will be lost as hordes of tourists move in for their selfies.
Those of us who have been here remember that so much of the rebuilding planning dealt with “knitting BPC back into the city,” and now that we have the last piece of this re-connection, it is being taken away by turning it into one more tourist attraction.
If Tammy or anyone has suggestions on how we can derail this plan I hope that the Broadsheet will print details for locals to take action so that we can have this very necessary connection remain for its intended use.
