To The Editor:
Re the article last week “In Our Defense” about Lt. Colonel Marci Miller-
she is certainly an impressive and accomplished individual. She had to
be tough and determined to succeed the way she did in the military.
However, I was taken aback by one comment she made. She refers to the fact that everyone who has been through combat is changed. Then she says “It’s just a question of whether you let it take over.”
There seems to be shades of Trump’s theory that if you are captured you are not a hero.
I have known a number of people who were overseas in combat situations- whether Viet Nam or Iraq-some died, some came through fine and some had severe and long lasting problems after they came home. Everyone reacts differently.
It is possible I have misinterpreted what she meant, but if not, she should understand that not everybody can handle things the way she apparently has.

Randy Bragg

To the editor:
Please note that she’s not alone. Major Jack Morrow is a Gateway resident, on the teaching faculty at West Point (he commutes!), and has served multiple tours in Afghanistan.
He is the kind of exemplary soldier and officer that all our men and women who serve aspire to be and serve with and under.
A big Veteran’s Day Salute to Jack and his wife, Army Captain (ret) Michelle Morrow.
Best,
Michael D. Wolf, Ph.D.
