![]() Attorney Daryl Kleiman stepped up to the microphone at The Event, the annual fundraiser gala for the Church Street School for Music & Art, and reminded the glitterati that they might have seen her not so long ago answering the school’s phone as the receptionist.
Growing up in Battery Park City, Ms. Kleiman attended the school’s art and music programs as a child, and then worked at the school. Today, she is the first student to return as a board member the Church Street School for Music & Art.
Church Street School’s 29 year history of nurturing Lower Manhattan’s creative expression was demonstrated in its choice of honorees: local residents Winsome Brown and Claude Arpels and Lisa de Armas and Joe MacIsaac, who have been a dedicated part of the school community for three decades. The Event also honored teaching artists Z Behl and Azikiwe Mohammed, whose passion for the arts and care for their students has been vital to the center’s open, accepting and inspiring culture.
