To the Editors;
RE: Can Million-Dollar Condos Salve Urban Blight?
The Broadsheet October 10, 2017
In December of 2014, Community Board 1 representing the interests of our community to our elected officials and others, resolved:
“CB1 strongly requests that the State and City of New York amend existing agreements to allocate Authority revenues designated toward affordable housing first to protect and increase the affordable housing stock in Battery Park City and throughout the CB1 area, allowing us to maintain and grow a more economically diverse community.”
While I strongly encourage our City Comptroller to continue to allocate the “more than $1 billion in such excess revenue to the City” toward the renovation of existing affordable housing, I call for a reading, understanding and implementation of the written wishes of our community by our elected officials “first to protect and increase the affordable housing stock in Battery Park City” and our area, especially noting the dire situation with the elapsing stabilization at Gateway Plaza.
