This Sunday (February 3), Assembly member Yuh-Line Niou will host her annual Legislative and Budgetary Town Hall to discuss priorities for the Albany lawmaking session that began earlier this month. That session has already seen the passage of measures relating to election reform, reproductive choice, gender rights, and financial aid for undocumented students, among other issues.
Among the measures Ms. Niou is sponsoring during the current legislative session is a law that would establish a New York State Service Corps, another that would enable tenants who are forced to vacate a residential property as a result of willful neglect to recover damages, and a third that would require nursing home operators to notify regulators and residents at least 90 days prior to closing such a facility. A fourth proposed law drafted by Ms. Niou would limit the power of landlords to evict tenants based on the claim that a dwelling is needed to serve as the primary residence for the landlord or a member of his or her immediate family.
Ms. Niou’s Town Hall meeting will include panels on housing, senior services and healthcare, economic justice and consumer protections, civil rights, immigration transportation, resiliency, and the environment.
