To the editor:
I enjoyed your recent piece, “‘Sustainability and Safety; Collaboration and Character’: Fourteen Questions for BPCA President Benjamin Jones,” but was dismayed to read that the wonderful staff who tend to the public spaces in Battery Park City described as “the unsung heros of the BPCA.” Unsung?! Well let the singing begin.
I have enjoyed the parks of Battery Park City for over a decade and never tire of the beautiful plantings that explode with color and thoughtful design on my morning runs and evening walks. The playgrounds are fun and well kept and I recently had a wonderful experience renting 6 River Terrace for a private event and getting help from Peter Campbell and his team.
Those of us who live, work, or just visit our neighborhood should be honored to have such beauty around us, the outcome of first class work.
What makes all of this even more remarkable is that the staff of BPCA achieves all of this while using sustainability strategies that are setting the standard for urban parks around world.
I’m glad President Jones recognizes what he’s got and I thank the staff for the good works they do for our community.
Sincerely,
Andrew Greenblatt
