If you’re looking for locally-sourced vegetables, cheese, meat, baked goods, or even spirits, check out GrowNYC’s Water Street Greenmarket between Hanover and Broad Streets which will be opening today Thursday, June 1st.
The Water Street Greenmarket began as a pop-up market through a partnership with the Downtown Alliance, but soon became a staple market place for locals and workers alike.
The Greenmarket project aims to provide New Yorkers access to fresh and healthy food from local farms in the region. Everything sold at the market is 100% farmer grown, produced, caught, or foraged.
There will be six farmers stands at the market.
Buy staple foods like vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs and cheese from Migliorelli Farm, Liberty Farms and Consider Bardwell. Then, indulge your sweet tooth with some honey from Apple State Hilltop Family Farm or baked goods from Francesca’s II Bakery. Or if you’re looking for a different type of indulgence, Orange County Distillery has whiskey, gin, vodka and more from Orange County, New York.
The manager’s tent will also have free recipes and weekly cooking demos with free samples every week.
The market will be open Thursdays 8 am to 6 pm through November 16, 2017. Individual farmers stands accept WIC and FMNP checks, and the market info tent accept EBT, Food Stamps, and Debit and Credit cards until 5 pm.
GrowNYC also has year-round Greenmarkets in Lower Manhattan: the Bowling Greenmarket at Broadway at Battery Place, Staten Island Ferry Whitehall Terminal Greenmarket at 4 South Street, Tribeca Greenmarket at Washington Market Park, and City Hall Park Market on Broadway south of Chambers Street.
