Battery Park City Day Nursery was the first preschool in Battery Park City. It opened in 1986 was known as Joy McCormack’s All Day Nursery. Ten years later, the Nursery was purchased by Denise Cordivano and Karen Klomp and renamed Battery Park City Day Nursery. Karen retired in 2007, but continues to stay interested in the school and the BPC neighborhood.
The Nursery has always believed in putting children first and is a place where “loving and learning go hand in hand.” We have a highly educated staff and one of our teachers, Janet Lovell, has been with the Nursery for the entire 30 years and many of our staff have been here for over 15 years.
A conservative estimate of the number of children who have passed thru our doors is 2,800. Our older graduates are now 35 years old! While our heart has remained the same, the Nursery and the neighborhood have changed. The original four classrooms have grown to seven classrooms.
On February 11th we are celebrating over 30 years as a neighborhood amenity.
We invite previous students and their families, previous and current teachers, and community supporters to join us at 6 River Terrace from 2:30 – 5:30.
Live music by Lou Gallo. We will have light refreshments, a photo slide show, a photo booth, arts and crafts and a group art project for families to participate in.
There is a suggested donation of $5.00/person or $20.00/family to help defray the celebration costs. The 30th Anniversary celebration is made possible, in part, through a partnership with the Battery Park City Authority.
