Finding solutions to our everyday quality of life concerns — sidewalk congestion, garbage piles, construction sheds, trucks parked on sidewalks, etc. requires that we better understand the root causes of the problem.
With data, proper planning and solutions can be implemented.
The Financial District Neighborhood Association has put together a petition to request public funding for a comprehensive pedestrian traffic safety and mobility study and to let our elected officials know that solutions to these problems are important.
Please go to our website www.fidinewyork.org to sign the petition.

Every neighborhood in New York has its unique challenges — the ones that Lower Manhattan faces come from our long history, our narrow streets, and the transformation of our neighborhood from a business-only district to a true 24/7 work-live environment. The challenges we’re facing — quality of life, public safety, congestion and garbage collection — have unique characteristics that stem from our unique situation.
Nothing makes me happier than the fact that we can move on from the existential threats that we overcame in Lower Manhattan post-9/11.
You can’t fix what you don’t measure. This petition calls on City Government to begin that measurement process so we can understand these unique challenges and prepare the policy and management steps that will fix them.
