The morning’s bliss lasted til noon, by then it was overcast, wind increasing from SSE and I had to give up rowing and put out the sea anchor…
But I did have 24 calm, beautiful hours. Last night when celebrating halfway with the Proseco there was a calm, undulating sea reflecting the nearly full moon and stars – very scenic, very romantic, very lonely…
It is now nearly 7 hours since I set the SA. In the interval we have had two heavy showers of rain, fog is closing in as I write, but at least it is not cold. But humidity is increasing again inside, and of course there was no more drying of bedding. I have sheltered inside, watched an old Oliver Stone film:”Wall Street” from 1985. Heard and read about it often, but never seen it. Excellent play, especially by Michael Douglas. Wonder if he got an Oscar for that role?
Also done something useful. I have often missed a handle to grab on to above the stove. I have installed solid handles inside/above the main hatch and above the bunk on starboard side before setting off from NY.
Today I have spliced a rope between two metal fittings with 4 short screws to each fitting and fastened to the ceiling with steel epoxy. The 20 cm rope is easy to grab quickly when the boat jerks and rolls. So the boat is getting more practical and safe by and by. (It is a puzzle how two crews before me have functioned in here without any grab-bars.)
Thanks, my old rowing-partner Hans Petter in Drammen for mail with news, incl. listing the Norwegians who will be rowing in Rio. Only one lady, I am sorry to see. But Olaf Tufte will be in his 5th Olympics, this time in double sculls with Kjetil Borch. At 41, the man is a legend with three medals so far, the first with Fredrik Bekken from Drammen Roklubb! I proudly wear Tufte underwear and support his effort: Good luck in Rio, Olaf – make history!
And thanks for many halfway greetings today via Diana – I am getting there, slowly!
Tomorrow my grandson Johan is 12: Congratulations!
