City Seeks Closure of Alleged Brothel on Greenwich Street
A year after the Broadsheet broke the story of an apparent brothel operating on Greenwich Street in the Financial District, the City is seeking to shut it down, with the alleged operators due in court this afternoon.
On February 14, 2024, the Broadsheet reported that a business calling itself Experience Lingerie Lounge, located on the sixth floor of 108 Greenwich Street (right), was offering lap dances, wet t-shirt contests, and “girlfriend eXXXperiences” at prices ranging from $50 for admission up to $750 for a full night’s stay with a model. The business also claimed to offer complimentary wine and champagne, along with a “cash bar with reasonably priced top-shelf alcohol.” Multiple passages from the Experience Lingerie Lounge website created the clear impression that sex was being offered in exchange for money, while a check of an online database operated by the State Liquor Authority confirmed that no business on the sixth floor of 108 Greenwich was licensed to sell alcohol, nor is any now licensed to do so.
The appearance of this story was followed by multiple complaints from nearby residents, according to documents filed with the State Supreme Court in Manhattan on February 27, which notes, “a review of the records of the New York City Police Department reflects that in 2024, members of the public contacted the NYPD on six different dates to complain that the subject premises was being used for prostitution. In June of 2024, there was a community complaint that the subject premises was being used for the unlicensed sale of alcohol.”
These complaints appear to have resulted in Experience Lingerie Lounge changing its name and its website to Temptations NYC sometime during the second half of 2024, but continuing with the same business model. The new website was replete with thinly veiled innuendos, such as “After Work Tease and Please” and “Welcome to Pound Town.”
Last October, according to the same court documents, an NYPD detective identified only as “Undercover Officer # C0406” entered Temptations NYC, and “was greeted by an employee; UC # C0406 paid this person $50.00 as an entry fee. UC # C0406 then approached a bar area, which was staffed by a bartender. UC # C0406 then ordered an alcoholic beverage. UC # C0406 ordered additional alcoholic beverages. UC # C0406 knew these beverages to contain alcohol based on his training and experience, as well as odor and appearance of the beverages. UC # C0406 spent a total of $40.00 on the beverages, as well as a twenty dollar $20.00 tip for the bartender.”
A separate legal brief, containing a sworn statement from this detective, states, “while inside the subject premises I paid a female $40.00 to perform an erotic lap dance on me. While performing this dance the female agreed to have sexual intercourse with me in exchange for a fee of $50.00 that would go to the club, and then a tip of $150.00 for the female. Without engaging in the sex act, I exited the subject premises and the building.”
The court documents, filed by the New York City Police Department and the City’s Law Department, orders the owners and operators of Temptations NYC to appear in Supreme Court this afternoon, at which time the City will seek a judge’s permission to close and padlock the sixth floor of 108 Greenwich Street. As of Tuesday afternoon, the Temptations NYC website had been taken down. When the Broadsheet attempted to contact a representative for a comment, the telephone was not answered.
