To the editor:
It is great to see so many of our community speaking up and sending letters to The Broadsheet. However, Gov. Cuomo is the only person with the power to appoint the board of the BPCA.
I urge all local residents to reach out to his office by email or letter (snail mail) asking for an ethnically and socio-economically diverse group of local residents that are reflective of the community to be appointed to the board.
We do not want another board filled with Cuomo supporters who mostly do not know the area and are uninvolved with the community in any way other than being on the board.
Community input should be a driving force to help navigate decisions for the quality of life in Battery Park City, not strapped into a child seat and always forced to comment once the decision has past.
On the same line of thinking, residents should be seriously reaching out to Senator Squadron to understand his recommendation of disbanding BPCA and having city ownership of the land.
We need more information and now seems the perfect time to really understand the ramifications of what may be gained or lost in a move to city vs. state control.
So please speak up and send your notes to Gov. Cuomo, every email/mail no matter how short or long must be counted and reviewed by his office.
It would be attention getting for him to receive hundreds (or more) of mail.

To the editor:
We are outraged and appalled at the attack on the local teens by a gang and the Allied Barton personnel not being able to do anything about it on the spot.
BPC is, by far, considered one of the safer and family friendly areas on the island. Thereupon we pay such high rents/mortgages for smaller apartments- for a sense of community, safety and security. In recent years it is incredibly upsetting to hear the apathetic response and lack of social integrity on the part of the BPCA, what with putting commercial concerns over resident needs, shutting out the sailing club and replacing it with an operator that has deadened the waterfront again. But this lack of concern and reduced accountability for resident security takes the cake!
Why are we expected to believe that 2.1 million dollars of monies generated through the residents of BPC area is being put to decent use, when the person on the ground is only enabled to call 911, same as a civilian bystander? How can this person in a fancy uniform provide “better” security than a trained officer with greater power to issue a summons, make an arrest and call for backup?
This is complete hogwash and as a lot of us suspect, it seems to be a way for the BPCA to support the state’s political donors with lucrative contracts at the cost of resident/constituent security while significantly compromising our way of life.
Meanwhile, gangs know that nothing is being done and that they got away, hence we can be sure this area will see a marked increase in violent crimes on innocent children and local tax paying citizens, all while the BPCA defends itself with complete lack of accountability.
This has gone too far.
Either the BPCA is disbanded, or a significant change of legislation allows for 50% local resident representation. We certainly need it.

To The Editor,
Does anyone on the BPCA, besides local resident Martha Gallo, even know the location of the terrace where the attack took place?
