Dear Neighbors,
I am writing to you at this time to both alert you and ask for your support in writing to BPCA about the current issues, regarding the safety of our children. As you are aware in BPC of late, there has been a group of teens coming into BPC and terrorizing our children and families. Incidents such as throwing glass bottles down into the ballfields, nearly hurting kids and adults. Here are some other examples -provided by BPC residents – of what has been going on:
An incident took place in December at the deli in my building. Apparently there is a gang called “TMW – Tribeca’s Most Wanted” that hangs around there often. These teenagers approached some kids and pulled out a fake gun.
A man, pregnant wife and their little boy came out of the movie theater (around march 4th), when some kids started bothering them. Goldman Sachs security guard had to interfere and ask them to leave them alone and leave the alley. Then the kids went to West Street and started bothering a taxi, the driver came out of the taxi, thinking they needed help and they started spitting at him.
A couple was passing by in front of Harry’s Restaurant and the kids bump into the guy on purpose to start a fight and the boy in the gang punched the man in the face.
Three teenagers were bothering some girls that were sitting on the ballfield’s terrace. The mom of one of them approached and asked them to leave. They didn’t like it and started shouting.
Two adults in surgical masks stopped a 13 year old boy by Gristedes and asked him for money.
Please join me in support of having a discussion and having a solution to this problem. I ask that you take the time to write a letter to BPCA regarding this issue. Please send the letter to: Shari C. Hyman at shari.hyman@bpca.ny.gov.
If we don’t speak up BPCA won’t know how dissatisfied residents are with the changes they have made in security and expect some serious improvements to be made.
